We started our trip down to Kentucky on March 22, 2023. We drove from PA down through West Virginia, into Ohio where we stayed at our first Harvest Host location. Then the next day we went from Ohio to Kentucky, then through Indiana, and back to Kentucky where were stayed at our second Harvest Host location. Then we had a short trip to our home for the next six months.
You are probably wondering what is Harvest Hosts? Harvest Hosts is a membership based program that is for RV’ers that can be self-contained (meaning you have a camper/travel trailer/motor-home ect., that you can have your own way to go to the bathroom and cook). Membership benefits include an online directory of Hosts that will allow you access to park overnight for a suggested purchase in lieu of camping fees. My mom gifted us a 1 year membership for Christmas 2022.
Our first stop was at Gidget’s Garden Center in Orient OH. It was a nice little shop that did not have many plants since it was in March, but they did have dog treats, homemade soaps, local wines, and wine tastings. We are not big wine drinkers (or any type of alcohol), but we did our part. I did a wine tasting and Brian had some cider, which one of the owner’s served us and told us stories about the store. We ended up with 2 bottles of wine and dog treats (of course). We didn’t get many pictures from this location as it was very cold and windy and stormed throughout the night.
Our second stop was at Trunnell’s Farm Experience and Market in Utica, KY. This place is amazing! I am not just saying this because it was 70 degrees and the previous night we were wearing coats. The pictures don’t do this place justice. We didn’t see the owners, but parked in their back yard. We went to the market to do our part and I could have bought just about everything in this store. Homemade salsas, spreads, jams, OMG so much more! It was amazing!
Then this morning, we made our way to our home for the next six months, our workamper job in Calvert City Kentucky! We will tell you about this trip and our first week as official workampers next week!
