I started my new job in Bar Harbor, Maine on May 10. I know it has only been three days, but I think it is safe to say I LOVE MY JOB!!! And that is not a sarcastic I love my job either. I have been training in the Kiosk (there is also a gift shop that I will have to cross-train at), so most of my day, I am out in the sunshine on the boardwalk! We had two days in a row that cruise ships have been in and I love hearing all the different accents. The people I work with are very nice, one of the bosses is kind of hard to read though. She is one of those people that their facial expression never changes.
There are a quite a few perks of this job, location is the biggie. I found out that most of the other companies in Bar Harbor offer discounts to employees of other businesses in order for them to spread the word about their business. For example, I can get a free lunch once a week from the restaurant across the street from us since we refer tourists to them all the time. We also get reduced tour rates from the local boat tours. There is so much to do in Bar Harbor alone, I want to do just about everything. Bar Harbor is very dog friendly, so I get to meet all the dogs that walk past. Plus I am starting to see tan lines!
Today it was 71 degrees and I had on my jacket because I was cold. I love being on the water! There are only two downsides, the commute and the parking. It is a 25 minute drive one way, traffic is not bad on the way in, but is on the way home. I have to park in employee permit parking and the closest spot that will fit our truck is a 10 minute walk to the shop. I think I am going to start riding my scooter instead of walking. At least I’m getting my steps in. I haven’t been under 9K steps since I started.
We did walk around downtown before I started and we got a Maine Lobstah Roll! It was OK, I think it needed more butter.
It has been a great week and I know it will be an unbelievable summer! Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom readers!
