Last week I mentioned how we were switching sites. Our site was heavily shaded and just was not a good fit for us (it was kind of depressing). There was another couple in an older Airstream that wanted a shadier spot, so we just switched with them. We made the move on Saturday afternoon. We have doggy neighbors on each side of us now, so Moxxi and Tucker can make friends.
Sunday, Brian went and emptied our gray tanks (sink and shower water) and we had the windows open. I asked him if he was emptying the blank tank (toilet tank) cause I could smell sewage. He said he wasn’t, so I blamed it on one of the dogs farting. A little later, Brian noticed a cloudy puddle on the opposite side of the camper. There was nothing above it that could have made a puddle. The camp office was already closed, so I just said lets talk to them about it tomorrow. Monday morning, he went to tightened the water hose on the spigot since it was dripping and the puddle came back again. Brian went to the office to let them know. Some staff members came within five minutes and dug a hole by where the puddle was, where they found some leakage.
I was at work with the truck, so a staff member moved our camper to another site so they could bring in a back hoe. They said it would be a few hours as they found the problem, a septic tank that was just for our site that no one knew about had overflowed (the current owners bought the campground in 2019). A few hours later they came back for their truck and said it was a bigger problem than they thought and did not know when it would be done.
We spent two nights in another spot. We walked past the poopy site with the dogs when I got home from work and it smelled terrible, but apparently the neighbors couldn’t smell it… They removed the soiled soil and replaced it with new, clean soil and then added some gravel and planted new grass.
I was worried that this was just going to turn to mud and was dreading coming back to this site. They had a camper coming into the site that they had temporarily put us in, so we had to move on Wednesday back to our site. Brian texted me while I was at work to let me know, and that they had put down straw so we didn’t track mud into our camper. I was happy with that. This is our site now. The golf cart is not ours, they let Brian borrow one so he could move our outdoor stuff back.
What really sucked was that Brian was at this temporary site for hours not able to go into our camper. We have to be completely, 100%, level to open our slides or we risk our slide breaking again. When they took their truck, the camper was not level so Brian could not go into our camper (other than the bathroom and bedroom) and could not get to the fridge or food. He had to wait for me to get home to get it level so we could get in.
The plus side is that we didn’t have to clean it up or pay for it! All is good now. I worked 8 days in a row so we did not do anything touristy this week. I have plans for the weekend, so stay tuned for next week’s blog!
