This week we took a four hour tour on a trolley. It went through downtown Bar Harbor and through the 27 mile park loop of Acadia National Park. We had stopped at Sieur de Monts Spring (Wild Gardens of Acadia), Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond, and Cadillac Summit.
Sieur de Monts Spring
This was our first stop and it was flooded under three feet of water in February, so there weren’t as many flowers as usual for this time of year. There were many paths to take here, but since we only had a half hour, we chose the boardwalk and the wild gardens.
Thunder Hole
Thunder Hole is probably my favorite. There is a cave that the waves crash into and it makes a thunder noise. The rougher the waters, the louder the thunder. We will have to go back to this spot when there is a storm and high tide to record it.
Jordon Pond
The pond was formed by the Wisconsin Ice Sheet during the last glacial period. In the pictures you can see “The Bubbles” which are the mountains that look like, well, bubbles. There is a restaurant at this stop that serves popovers, which we have not had. I would like to go back here to try those. Plus there is no cell service here so I think it would be a perfect stop for a date night with my hunny!
Cadillac Mountain
This was just beautiful and the pictures do not do this place justice.
Pictures from the trolley
What we have seen so far of Acadia National Park, we can see why it was ranked 5th in the most visited National Parks in 2022. We have also learned that we are not in shape for hiking, so we will maybe do other things, like a carriage ride through the carriage roads of the park. There are a few spots of the park that we did not get to during our Trolley tour, and we plan on getting a National Parks Pass so we can go back into the park and explore more.
Next week, I will be taking the week off from blogging for the holiday. Happy Independence Day!
