Maine has not had a hurricane since 1969. The last tropical storm watch was 2008, but it never hit Maine. The last tropical storm to hit Maine was 1991. So of course we are in Maine and Hurricane Lee will be hitting New England, this weekend!
We are staying far enough inland that we won’t get much of it, but Bar Harbor, where I work, is going to get some flooding from the tropical storm. Several businesses in the area have already closed and/or canceled for Saturday, my work included. Acadia National Park will be closing at 5:00pm on Friday.
I was a little worried until I talked with most of the locals I work with. They say they get the high winds that we are expecting in the winter time so there is really nothing to worry about. Our campground sent out an email saying that they are not closing and sent a list of things to do to prepare. We more than likely will lose power and internet. Bar Harbor took in the docks Wednesday night in preparation. All cruise ships canceled coming in until Monday, I believe.
We will pull in our slides on Saturday and hang out in the bedroom for a majority of the day. Once our slides are in, we only have access to the bedroom and bathroom. My kindle is charged and I bought some books to read in case we lose power and internet. So we are good.
If you were in Bar Harbor this afternoon and didn’t listen to the news/weather, you would never know there is a storm coming. Look at the picture I took on my way home from work.
This is where the dock used to be.
And this was taken when I was at Walmart getting some groceries.
I’m not the greatest picture taker, that’s Brian’s job, so sorry they are blurry. We will let you all know when the storm passes and we are ok.
