On our way from Pittsburgh to Florida, our first stop was at a Railroad Museum in Princeton, WV. They feature the Virginian Railway, but other railroads are represented Including the N&W. They house exhibits of railroad artifacts plus artwork, books, and photographs. A restored #308 Virginian caboose is available for people to explore as well!
This is one of the Harvest Host that I was excited to visit. Brian was not feeling well, so I did the tour through the museum myself. It was a self-guided tour and I was the only one in there, other than the two ladies that were knitting when I first walked in. The tour was free, but we did give a donation since that is part of the deal with Harvest Hosts, you stay for free, but you are expected to give the host “business”.
We walked the dogs in the historic downtown area, which seemed a little sketchy to me, but where we were staying was pretty quiet and well lit. We didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
The museum had a model train exhibit that had an alarm on it, so if you touched it at all, an alarm sounded. I backed up to take a picture and my ponytail set off the alarm… It was very touchy. They ladies said they had to since people would let their kids run free and they were destroying the display. There was a ton of neat things. I did go onto the caboose as well and the mannequin scared me at first cause all I saw were the boots!
The photos below are from the caboose.
Our next blog will be about our second stop at South of the Border!
