I know it has been a while since I have updated this blog. A lot has happened this summer and we have been busy. Brian has been working seven days a week and has been working full days since the restaurant has opened. He was doing deliveries for Lobster 207 a few hours a day before the restaurant opened.
At the beginning of the summer, my work, Oli’s Trolley, had some employee team building events. The first one was at the Dorr Museum at the College of the Atlantic. The Dorr Museum features dioramas of coastal Maine wildlife and a tide pool tank that houses a variety of live sea stars, hermit crabs, snails and other marine creatures. We can touch while learning about the natural history of Maine. All exhibits are designed and produced by students at College of the Atlantic. We also assembled a Baleen Whale. We learned a lot!
Our second team building event was at the La Rochelle, The Bar Harbor Historical Society. I LOVED this house also known as a “summer cottage”. It was stunning, and I loved the wedding dress that they had on display from a wedding that took place here. And oh my goodness, that staircase!
There were some bear sightings on the Island! These are not my pictures, but I love them!
I had some coworkers over for The Fourth of July and smoked an 11lb brisket!
I got my nostril pierced and the umbrella picture was from across the street from where I got it done.
Just some random pictures from around work and BINGO!
Dates with my Hunny! One at Reel Pizza and then another day date at a Fine Arts Craft Show (I bought a cheese slicer) and then Putt Putt!
Around the end of July, I got some sad news. The owners of Oli’s Trolley announced that they are retiring and they sold the company. Denise and Larry (the now former owners) were the best bosses I have EVER had, and I am not just saying that. I have never felt so appreciated at a job than I have the last three summers that I have worked here. To say that I was sad or upset when I heard, is an understatement. Before they announced it, we had already been planning an employee dinner, so the rest of the crew and I turned it into a retirement party for them! We all chipped in and bought them gifts. I did not get a picture of Larry’s gift, but it was a whiskey glass that had “Every sip tastes like not my problem anymore” on it along with his name. There were a lot of tears at this party. I’m very thankful that both Larry and Denise wore the sashes and Denise the tiara that I got for them. The last picture is of Larry, Lizz (the new CEO), and Denise. I am very thankful to everyone that helped out with this party, it meant so much to me to have one last party with them all. I did not get many pictures because I was too in the moment and enjoying it.
And of course we had to celebrate Moxxi’s 10th Birthday with pup cakes from Bark Harbor! 08/24/2025
So what’s next for us? Brian accepted a position in Michigan which starts October 14, so we will be leaving Maine October 10th to make our way there. The job is only a month long, but may be shorter depending on the weather. Also, we are going back to Florida to the campground that we have been at the last two winters. We worked out a deal and we will be paid this winter, which is just so exciting since we, well I do, consider it our home. We agreed to stay from December 2025 through May 2027. No mistype there, we will be there for a year and a half or until the campground sells. We were offered a job in Jarbidge, NV for summer of 2026, but maybe we will do that in summer 2027. If you have not heard of this town, you have to google it. It looks AMAZING!
So we only have 37 days left in Maine. I would not say that we are never coming back, but if we do it will be a long time until we return to Maine. We have so much more to explore of this country and we will get to all the 48 states, maybe Alaska someday, but I’m scared to do that trip right now. I will miss all the people I have become friends with and now consider family here in Maine.
Well, that pretty sums up our summer here in Maine. Be sure to check back for our trip from Maine to Michigan and from Michigan to Florida! We will have more Harvests Host stops and maybe even a trip to Pittsburgh to visit family!
