We are officially in Michigan now. We arrived October 14th, Brian’s first day of the Michigan Beet Harvest is today, October 27th. Comment below if you would like for Brian to blog about working the beet harvest!
Before we left Maine, I really wanted to do the carriage rides through the carriage roads in Acadia National Park. So we finally got a day off together and did it. It was awesome! Our horses name’s were Rex and Frog! They were the prettiest horses that we saw there as well! Afterward, we had lunch at The Terrace Grill and had a little walk around Bar Harbor.
Our last week in Maine, I did one load of laundry a night after work since I did not want to take much time off since my last day was on a Thursday. When I was in the laundry room, I saw a sign for a washer/dryer combo for sale in the campground. I went home and told Brian and he was into it! We have been looking at them for a while, but they were just too expensive, plus we don’t have washer/dryer hook-ups in our camper. Since we will be in Florida for a year and a half, Brian has come up with a plan on how we can hook it up at our site down there. We will make a blog all about it. I did the math, and having this washer/dryer combo, we will save at least $1200 a year! Typically it is $4-5 a load and 4-5 loads a week. To say I am excited about this would be an understatement.
My last day at Oli’s Trolley was on October 9th. I told my work bestie that I did not want it to be a big deal, and I even was going to tell people that my last day was later than it actually was, but I can’t lie. I got cards and a cake, even thought I told everyone I did not want anything special. It was nice and I will miss all my Oli’s Trolley friends! I also got my last picture of Bar Harbor.
We left Maine on Friday October 10. Our first stop was in Vermont at a Harvest Host, Otter Creek Fun Center. I was really looking forward to this host because they looked like a lot of fun and had a good menu. When we got there, it was around 5:30pm and their site said it was open until 9:00pm. When we went in to order food, the girl that was working said she was the only one working, the kitchen was closed, and they closed at 7:00pm. So I was disappointed that we didn’t get to eat there. I did not get many pictures since it gets dark so early now.
After Vermont, we went to New York and stayed at another Harvest Host, Danny’s South. It was a restaurant by the Buffalo Bills Stadium. Brian nor I are sports fans. The food was AMAZING! If you are ever in the area, you must stop here and eat!
After we left New York, we went to Sandusky, Ohio, near Cedar Point. We stayed in a campground called Bay Front Resort at Cross View. Cedar Point was across the lake. We stayed here for 2 days and it was a very nice campground. They screw the picnic tables into the concrete so you can’t move them. There were some bugs that were EVERY WHERE and it was a little annoying. We also passed by a sign to Pittsburgh, our hometown, and it made me a little homesick.
We made it to Sandusky, Michigan on October 14th. When they told us that we would be staying at a fairground, I was a little worried that it was going to be a muddy field, but I was pleasantly surprised. It has been cold here which I am not a fan of. Brian had 2 weeks between his orientation and when he actually started working, so we got to go to Frankenmouth, which everyone told us to visit. We ended up just going to Bronner’s CHRISTmas Store and went back home. We spent a few hours there and it was magical! I got some garland to decorate in the camper with, you will see pictures closer to Christmas. They have a cafe and I got a Christmas cookie and Brian got carrot cake.
The first couple of days that we were here, the weather was great, but then it rained for a few days and got colder. Our site is all grass, so it did start to get muddy, but it dried up pretty quick. Since we are on a grass site, we aren’t putting our new to us washer/dryer combo or our freezer outside, so the camper is a little cramped, but its only for a month. Tucker is not a fan of the cold either, so he likes to snuggle under a blanket with me.
We will be here until November 20th, at the latest. If the weather cooperates, it can be sooner. We may be in Florida the next time we blog. I can’t wait to be in warmth and sunshine!
